Rise up & Sing
written by Sally Barris
This road we walk was built for two
You for me and I for you
To share to hope to celebrate
To love with every step we take
Rise up and sing
With you I can keep going
Rise up lets go
Together
We’re never alone
My heart was heavy the last mile
You found a way, to make me smile
When you were weak than I was strong
We smell each rose that comes along
Rise up and sing
With you I can keep hoping
Rise up lets go
Together we’re never alone
Tomorrow is another day
Who knows what you or I will face
Let’s travel light around this bend
I’ll cross that bridge with my friend
Rise up and sing
With you I can do anything
Rise up lets go
Together we’re never alone
Magnify

River how you taught me
Even in the deep love can reach me
Even through the ice
good can break right through
Storm how you showed me
Even in the dark love can hold me
Even when I’m lost
I will be rescued
I want to magnify not the storm or the river
But the hand that lifted me up
Love I want to magnify, amplify you, love I want to recognize, intensify you
Crash how you threw me
Middle of the night on the highway
Spun around in need of mercy
But unhurt
Some came to help me
Others came to try and harm me
But it was the angel
That got there first
I want to magnify not the crash or the highway
But the stranger that held my hand
In the impossible place
Help me to see your face
Living in the Mystery

Did you know that in Albuquerque New Mexico
Old Route 66 highway
Has an Intersection with itself, which way
would you go
I don’t know
I’m making this one up as I go along
Right or wrong a part of me
Keeps one foot in this world
And the other one living in the mystery
Did you know that the center of North America
Is in a town called Center North Dakota
One night in a bar they got a globe and string
What a thing
The truth
Is stranger after all, on this tiny ball
Right or wrong a part of me
Keeps one foot in this world
And the other one living in the mystery
And you and I fell like two random leafs together
In all my life I could have never planned it better
So it goes
This road
Is brand new everyday, every step I take
Always reminding me
To keep one foot in this world
And the other one living in the mystery
Trouble Go Away

Trouble go away
You’re not welcome here
Trouble go away
Time you disappear
Trouble go away
I think I’ve had my share
trouble are you listening
Do you even care
I’ve been fighting everyday
Keeping every leaky dam at bay
Holding back every tidal wave
And its wearing me down
I’ve been locking my door
Begging you not to come knocking anymore
Every time it rains it has to pour
When you come around
Trouble can you see
The sun is shining bright
You could take a break
And let everything be alright
I just want to breath
Have a little peace of mind
Say goodbye to you
And to all these troubled times
Zombie Train

I've been moving slow watching the crowd race by, I'm on an old back road, while they're catching the wild ride, I'd rather take my time, than.....
Get on board the Zombie Train, lose my soul and leave my brain lay my body on the track, give away the life I won't get back
I hear the rumble wheels, it just might go off the rails, I am trying to be still, keep my heart from going astray, I'd rather go my way, than....
Fireflies

Fireflies
lighting up the summer grass
their curtain call has come at last
waited so long
fireflies
Its 8pm follow me
I’ll show you to your front row seat
out on the lawn
Chorus:
See how they spark
The child in your heart
emerald wings
shimmery things
here for another run
The firefly dance has begun
Fireflies
pirouettes and chasses
taking our breath away
this starry night
hypnotize
now we are in a trance
lost in their enchanting dance
of tiny lights
Some Other Day
By Sally Barris
Photo by Sally Barris The Sun is rising
the backyard is thriving
I’m the one that’s moving slow
I wish I had something
but I ain’t got nothing
and I don’t know which way to go
After all this free time
all this endless me time
I’m like a road thats lost its way
All I’ve got to show
is a garden overgrown
with weeds I’ll pull some other day
The birds all keep busy
the grass grows like crazy
the corn moon is doing just fine
I’m feeling broken
not ready to open
with an under construction sign
soon I’ll go out an play
September I wish you could stay
This Too Shall Pass
By Sally Barris
Photo by Sally Barris This too shall pass
Tell your soul to relax
Nothing here will ever last
From joy to pain
Then back to joy again
We move along from sun to rain
loves all around you loves all around you
love will surround you, always surrounding you
This too shall go
Like everything we know
The wind will change which way it blows
From weak to strong
From darkness to the dawn
we’ll find a way to carry on
loves all around you loves all around you
love will surround you, always surrounding you
here and now
in this place and time
a time and place for everything
what remain’s
what fades away
lets see what tomorrow may bring
Old Black Phone
By Sally Barris
Photo by Sally Barris. I miss the old black phone
It just rang when nobody was home
No messages
So I could just be a kid
Back when everybody left you alone
I miss the 5 o’clock news
30 minutes and then it was through
Here’s what happened today
There’s nothing more left to say
Cause there’s more important living to do
Pages in a book that you could turn and they would yellow with time
records you could play, and drift away and leave your cares behind
I miss the big blue sky
Where I spent most of my time
Dreaming my dreams
Without any screens
When there was just miles and miles
Your Love Won't Let Me Drown
By Sally Barris
Floating through the air
Swimming through time
Just like it’s water
In a sea of days
riding every wave
this life can offer
I’ve been drifting out
As far as I can get
Without letting go....
You hold
Me close
When I am sinking
Down
You pull
me out
Your love won’t let me drown, drown
when I’m sinking down
I sent out a dream
Long ago
Then I forgot it
I still can’t believe
reeling in the net
Somehow I caught it
Somehow it returned
After I surrendered
Letting go
deeper then I’ve ever gone before
dare to love you even more
without letting go
